Seraphina's Higher Life

You may never know that a very simple thing could bring someone so much Joy, unless you take the time to get to know them, and ask! For the people around us, the Higher Life may be very different than our own. For each of us have different views of the world, and the things that bring us joy are just as unique as we are. When I ask my children what they would like to be, do, or have, they give me a wide range of answers from things like spending time alone with me to going to other countries and skydiving. Sometimes it may only take buying the smallest of items, sharing a kind word, or a sincere smile to bring great joy and validation to someone's heart.

Take some time today to ask someone close to you what their Higher Life would look like.  You may be surprised to find the ways in which you can be a part of supporting their dreams!

Dreams

“The greatest achievement was, at first and for a time, a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul, a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~James Allen
A dream I think, is the most precious of all things that we can create in our lives. For in a dream there may be an entire universe waiting to awaken into the realm of reality. Our dreams are a measure of the untapped potential within our soul. Dreams are the reflections of the creative juices of the Divine within us. One cannot argue that every man-made thing upon this planet (and in orbit) was once a dream within the mind of humankind. From every bridge and building to the tiniest nanochip, the great symphonies and quantum equations to nursery rhymes and stick figure finger paintings, we dreamed them all into existence.
In Bruce Wilkinson's book The Dream Giver he states: "Do you believe every person on earth was born with a dream for his or her life? ... I call this universal and powerful longing a Big Dream. Like the genetic code that describes your unique passions and abilities, your Big Dream has been woven into your being from birth.... And you have it for a reason: to draw you toward the kind of life you were born to love!"  I believe that we all start off with a Big Dream, that some times gets ignored or lost in the other thoughts of our lives. In the paying of bills and the copings and dealings with the ups and downs, it is sometimes easy to loose sight of that longing within yourself. Never give up on that Big Dream, it is your key to purpose and overflowing joy.

Assets Vs. Liabilities – Why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer

We’ve all heard that saying “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer” and I have to say that this fact is actually very true. There is however a very good reason for this and it has nothing to do with rich people being bad and taking money away from poor people as the saying sometimes implies. It has mostly to do with financial education and spending habits.

First let’s define assets and liabilities. My mentor, a deca-millionaire, would say that ‘assets’ are anything that puts more money into your pocket than it takes out. A liability is anything that takes more money out of your pocket than it puts in. This means, that if you own a home and have a mortgage with interest, it is not an asset. That also goes for your cars, and other high priced items. Liabilities on the other hand, are purchases that you pay for in order to get them, keep them, use them, or repair them. If you receive income from them by renting them to others and it does not exceed the expenses to maintain them, it is still a liability.
Let’s say you bought a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and it cost you around $200,000. It would never become an asset because it would continually take money out of your pocket even after you purchased it. Once you got around to selling it 5-10 years later you would get less than your purchase price and thus prove that it was a liability. Now on the other hand let’s say you creatively financed and bought some investment real-estate with your $200,000 that netted you a cashflow of $5000/month. That $5000 dollars in rental income could go towards financing that Mercedes and even when it was time to sell the Mercedes you would still have that cashflow.
What do the poor & middle class do?
The poor and middle class usually stay ‘poor’ and ‘middle class’ because of their mindset and financial education. Once they get more money than they need for expenses, they usually spend it on liabilities. The energy, time and labour from working for their money now effectively goes “out the window and down the toilet,” as my mentor used to say. That money is never seen again. Here are some examples of purchases that the poor and middle class make with excess funds:
  • Food
  • Entertainment and entertaining others (parties etc.)
  • Costly electronics
  • Trips
  • Household gadgets
  • Clothes & jewellery
  • ·Vehicles
What do the rich do?
The rich purchase assets that create positive cashflow, portfolio and passive income. Some examples are:
  • Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc
  • Investment real-estate
  • Businesses

Cash-flow is the amount of money that they have coming in on a regular basis from their income producing assets. It is how they retire rich and get richer and richer.

So how do they drive those expensive cars like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG? They use their money to purchase assets and then use their portfolio or passive income from the assets to purchase the same liabilities that the poor and middle class do. The difference in their spending is that their money doesn’t go out the window and down the toilet, never to be seen again. The money that the rich worked for, goes to creating more money. In this way, their money begins working for them and they can retire rich. The best part is that even after they retire, their money begins to compound and they get richer and richer!

"I can improve the world"

"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do." ~Edward Everett Hale

Building a house for Project Mercy in Tijuana, Mexico via Heart Of The Samurai

"And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do." How often do we do the very opposite?

If each of us believed that we were capable of creating something great for the world, perhaps many of the calamities and injustices would not be present. Each and every one of us has within ourselves the opportunity to enrich the lives of the people around us. At every turn in life, be they good or bad, difficult or easy, wanted or not, therein lies the seed of something great. There amidst every event or situation that we find ourselves in, is the chance to grow and learn and give to ourselves and others. In raising our awareness of the possibility of greatness and success, for both ourselves and others, we invariably begin to attract it into our lives.

Napoleon Hill said, "Every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit."
Every story has two or more sides, and depending upon how you view any given story or circumstance may very well determine how aware you become of that "seed of an equivalent or greater benefit."

Now back to Tijuana, where we built 5 houses in a day and laid 14 foundations for new houses. Not all of us can drop everything and go to another country to build homes for people who on the previous day were living in large cardboard boxes. However, who in your immediate circle of influence could use some serious 'building' in their lives. Perhaps someone you know could use some help building their business, financial support or support for their goals and dreams, perhaps a relationship needs to be re-built or merely some inspiration and encouragement.
It is a good practice to ask oneself each day "What can I do right now, on this day, to improve the quality of someone's life and even my own?" The more times you ask the question... the more times you'll get an answer.

"I am only one..." so how does my 'one' build 5 houses in a day and give several homeless people shelter? My 'one' plus your 'one', plus his and hers and theirs, equals over 200 'ones'.

If enough of us dare to care enough, we can all say, "I can improve the world."

Make an impact today for someone who needs you.
